I've started knitting items for a couple of different charities. I'll be concentrating on items for preemies and cancer patients.
From the Heart Stitchers is located here in Richmond and here's their blurb:
From the Heart is involved in numerous projects, from making chemo hats for local cancer centers and preemie baby hats for the tiniest of our needy citizens, to sleeping bags and warm mitten sets for the homeless in the Richmond community. Heart volunteers are constantly finding new opportunities to help, and encourage anyone who knows of an unmet need in the community to please bring it to our attention. We invite anyone interested in joining our cause to join us by email, web site, or check the latest newsletter for our schedule and just show up! http://www.fromtheheartstitchers.com/
The Preemie Project has two chapters located in Iowa and Michigan, so far. Here's their Mission Statement:
The Preemie Project comforts premature and critically ill infants and their families at Children's Hospital of Iowa by giving gifts of hats, booties and blankets that have been handcrafted by a devoted group of local and national volunteers. In addition, The Preemie Project offers solace to families who are grieving a loss by providing bereavement items such as handcrafted burial layettes and tokens of remembrance. The Preemie Project uses financial contributions to supply Children's Hospital of Iowa families in financial crisis with basic necessities such as diapers, toiletries and clothing. http://www.thepreemieproject.com/index.html
